Federal Government Ready to Deploy Numerous Government Officers to San Francisco

The White House was preparing on Wednesday to dispatch numerous of federal agents to the northern California for a major immigration enforcement operation, triggering criticism from California leaders.

Information of the Operation

Specifics of the deployment were still emerging, but it will reportedly include over a hundred government officers, based on information. The personnel are expected to begin utilizing the US Coast Guard base in the East Bay, across the bay from San Francisco. It was still uncertain whether state soldiers would join the operation.

Political Response

The mission comes after weeks of warnings by Donald Trump to focus on the progressive municipality. The state's leader Gavin Newsom criticized the move, labeling it “right out of the dictator’s handbook”.

“He sends out masked men, he deploys border agents, he dispatches ICE, he instills worry and terror in the community so that he can take credit for addressing that by sending in the state troops,” the governor stated. “This is exactly like the firestarter extinguishing the fire.”

City Readiness

San Francisco is the most recent metropolitan center focused on by the administration's initiative of widespread apprehensions. The deployment is likely to cause a standoff between the White House and local leaders who have pledged to prevent armed border control in the city.

San Franciscans have been gearing up for weeks for Trump to carry out frequent statements to deploy forces to the city. At a Wednesday afternoon press conference, San Francisco’s municipal chief reiterated that the city was equipped.

“For months, we have been anticipating the likelihood of an impending national intervention in our city,” stated the official, explaining that he had enacted new policies on Wednesday to “bolster the city’s support for our newcomer populations, and ensure our offices are coordinated ahead of any national intervention.”

Judicial Framework

Regardless of legal challenges to operations in a number of cities, including Illinois, Portland and Los Angeles, Trump has claimed “complete control” to deploy the military forces in cities, pointing to the federal statute which permits presidents limited power to dispatch personnel on American territory.

Local Response

The governor, who once held office as San Francisco’s mayor – had pledged to intervene “right away” to a deployment in the city. “The concept that the federal government can send forces into our cities with no justification supported by evidence, no monitoring, no accountability, no respect for local authority – it’s a direct assault on the legal system,” he said on Wednesday.

Community groups, including civil rights groups created during the previous presidential term, have organized to quickly mobilize a public demonstration in the city, as well as vigils at local libraries.

Community Effect

In San Francisco’s Mission neighborhood, a mostly Latin American community, city supervisor told reporters last week she and her voters had been preparing for this situation. “The moment that people stop going to work, when people of color are afraid to go outdoors without the concern of government officers targeting based on race and detaining them, the moment when students avoid classrooms, become too afraid to go to the food market or doctor,” she said. “What we have been preparing for in the Mission is basically a halt the extent of which we have not experienced since the health crisis.”

State Troops Condition

About three hundred out of several thousand California national guard troops stay under federal control under an order from Trump. Roughly two hundred of them had been sent to the Pacific Northwest, where they were remaining in uncertainty during a judicial dispute over their mission.

This period, Newsom said he had called the California national guard troops under his command to operate distribution centers amid the government shutdown.
